Operation Hunger was started in 1978 by Dr. Selma Browde with Dr. Nthato Motlana after they saw the agony, anguish and toll that malnutrition inflicted on the South African people and its economy.


Rallying all against hunger

Operation Hunger is constantly running campaigns to raise funds for identified needs and worthy causes on behalf of the beneficiaries who themselves, are not able to do so in an effective manner.


Nutrition & Related Projects

Operation Hunger generates self-sustaining, income generating projects that combat malnutrition, foster healthy living, encourage basic literacy and provide basic training in life and business management skills.


  • Wellness Initiatives

    Wellness practices have been introduced into communities by Operation Hunger to equip poor communities to manage and cope with stressful circumstances better for a healthier life.

  • Water Tanks

    With the help of partners and stakeholders, we have assisted over 454 households to have access to clean water.

  • Poultry Projects

    By funding, setting up and training community members, Operation Hunger empowers communities to be more self sufficient both economically and nutritionally.

  • Nutrition Projects

    Operation Hunger presently supports projects in the Western Cape, Port Elizabeth, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and the Northern Cape.

  • Water Roller Project

    Access to clean drinkable water is the foremost basic need for all life. Improving access to water is an ongoing initiative of Operation Hunger.

  • Garden Projects

    We assist in the establishment of vegetable gardens for families, cooperatives and entire communities with initial funding, training and the setup of agriculture systems.
